Beyond the Federation
Following the breakdown of the Federation, the small islands were still skeptical of their fate and appealed to the diaspora to come to their aid. They attempted to form a new Federation on their own however they did not receive funding as their economies were in dire need of assistance. After becoming heavily dependent on the West Indies Federation, the Dominica Government believed that a new Federation should be put in place before that of Independence, Dominica’s United Peoples Party (D.U.P.P) Opposed this notion.
Furthermore, Dominica was not the only country who considered independence, after the Federation was terminated many colonies thought that independence was the next step in ensuring their progress and growth. Some of Colonies of the West Indies Federation then went on to become contemporary sovereign states completely eradicating the rule of the United Kingdom in their territories.
