Feast of Saint Peter

The feast of St Peters also known as the patron Saint of Fishermen was once celebrated in all the fishing villages of Dominica such as; Newtown, Marigot, Pointe Michel,  Soufriere, Potersville, Anse-de-Mai and Dublanc. Unlike the feast of St Isidore most of the celebrations in some villages have come to an end or does not have the same Catholic significance that it once had.

For instance in the community of Newtown the feast day would have started off with mass and soon after mass the congregation would go down to the bay side by the fisheries where activities such as boat rides, boat races and a day filled with dishes of the fish that was caught that same morning and would be further celebrated with entertainment and dance. Similar activities took place in the community of Portersville which has also come to an end.

In the community of Colihaut and surrounding villages, the Parish of St Peter, the celebrations are continued, and while it may not be as grand as it once was extending to the village and beyond the Mass celebrations still go on.
