Feast of Saint Isidore
The feast of St Isidore, also known as the patron Saint of labourers and farmers is celebrated in the villages of, Grandbay, San Sauver, Good Hope and Petite Soufriere. For many, especially the outsiders who come in to join the fun of the celebrations that take place in the varying communities, the significance of these feast days might be the entertainment and different activities that are scheduled within the realm of the feast day.
However, in these farming villages the feast of St Isidore marks a time of thanksgiving for the harvest of crops and this is marked by a grand procession where the farmers will bring forth the various crops harvested up to the Alter after collection is taken up. In the village of Grandbay especially the mass celebration takes a completely different course from the traditional Catholic offering of gifts, and while things have changed over the years in the communities the traditions of the Feast of St Isidore in the various farming communities have not come to halt and is alive and well.
